After losing his home and financial security, a young man with an optimistic outlook finds himself broke and adrift. He relocates to a small town, hoping to rebuild his life, but quickly discovers that while the rent is cheap, opportunities are scarce. He needs to find work and establish a new residence.
His journey involves encounters with an ex-girlfriend who runs a cafe, a hotel that rejects his applications, a librarian with secrets, and a dilapidated pub that could either be his salvation or his downfall. He faces rejections, difficult negotiations, and unusual propositions as he attempts to transform the failing pub into a profitable business and secure his future in a seemingly indifferent town.
